    I am a journalist

To the White House Correspondents Association:

If you award Helen Thomas' prime seat in the White House briefing room to FOX, then Sunday, August 1st will be remembered as the day that The White House Correspondents Association legitimized the ratings-seeking "Infotainment" that is killing professional journalism. Picking FOX would signal a decision to abandon real journalism and would severely discredit other White House correspondents.

The journalism profession is in dire straits. This isn't typical inside-baseball. Picking FOX will be symbolic.

This is about the future of journalism. The WHCA has a choice: Give this seat to a real news outlet -- or officially endorse the kind of tabloid sensationalism that FOX is famous for.

The organization in this seat will ask questions that shape our conversation with the President of the United States. FOX is not fit for that duty.

    The undersigned,
